Introduction:
The KCCB – General Secretariat is the National Administrative, facilitative and Coordinative arm through which the KCCB implements and co-ordinates various Pastoral programs at the National level and undertakes all those responsibilities which express the mission of the Catholic Church in Kenya.It is seeking an outstanding, dynamic and results oriented individuals to fill the following key positions.
Legal and Civil Assistant
Report to the General Secretary
Purpose of the post: To provide legal advice and ensure compliance with legal requirements
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contract lifecycle management, including preparation, review, negotiation and advise on all research agreements (including donor agreements, partnership and agreements, MoUs, research collaborations, consultancies,) and other institutional agreements and contracts; monitoring finalisation and submission/return of completed contracts, appropriate follow-ups and archiving of all research and other institutional agreements.
  • Maintaining and updating the KCB Contracts Management System.
  • Keeping abreast with legal and policy developments and providing updates and advise on such developments in law that are of relevance.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the Legal Unit including the implementation of new systems.
  • Research and preparation of legal opinions and briefs
  • Reading and summarizing papers
  • Draft Memos and Letter for the General Secretary
  • Identify and summarize all emerging legal issues affecting KCCB for compliance
  • Frame legal issues for external professional intervention
  • Draft basic agreements and correspondences on legal matters
  • Ensure legal and other security documents are properly kept secured and archived
  • Carry out legal audit to ensure KCCB’s compliance with written statutes and all other legal requirements
  • Through the General Secretary , Liaise with external lawyers on all legal matters involving KCCB for prompt handling
  • Performs related work as required and carries out any other essential tasks related to the General Secretariat’s goals

Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in law (LL.B) from a recognized university
  • Post-graduate diploma in Legal studies from the Kenya School of Law
  • An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
  • Be of good standing and possess a current LSK practicing certificate
  • Have at least two year’s post-admission experience in legal practice in a busy environment
  • Demonstrate good grasp of relevant laws including but not limited to Laws governing the Constitution of Kenya 2010; Labour Laws and Corporate Governance.
  • Possess excellent communication, research, presentation and analysis skills
  • Proactive and self-motivated individual able to work with minimum supervision
    Proficiency in basic Computer and Typing skills ( word, excel, outlook and PowerPoint)
    CPS (K)

  • Demonstrates commitment to KCCB mission, vision and values.
  • A good knowledge of social teachings of the Church, and Ethical principles
  • Ability to perform work of a confidential nature and handle large volume of work
  • Commitment to personal learning and development and applies newly acquired knowledge and skills
  • Ability to provide input to implementation of new systems
  • Ability to provide helpful feedback, advice and support to ensure effective teamwork in meeting the organization’s objectives
  • Good knowledge of personnel administration rules and regulations
  • Strong English writing and speaking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Able to work under minimum supervision
