We currently have a challenging opportunity for a Product Safety and Compliance Specialist (m/f)


The EMEA EH&S and Sustainability organization has a job opportunity for a Product Safety Specialist (PSS) for Africa reporting to the Associate EHS&S Regulatory Director EMEA.
The EMEA Product Safety organization provides product safety and expertise and supports all Dow businesses to ensure that products are manufactured and placed on the market in compliance with national, local and Dow requirements. The PSS for Africa is responsible for supporting the business growth in this area with increasing regulatory complexity and requirements by understanding/interpreting national and local product EH&S regulations, monitoring EHS product regulatory developments, establishing the necessary external networks for advocacy, and being the main local Dow contact for EH&S product regulations in case of inspections or other enforcement actions by the local authorities. The PSS for Africa will also perform internal product regulatory assessments and provide assistance in petitioning for registrations/permits and will be responsible for relevant reporting. In the area of hazard communication, the PSS will provide local expertise to global Hazard Communication program. In the area of product stewardship, the PSS will assist businesses in addressing customer regulatory inquiries; provide appropriate product stewardship training to business partners, distributors and customers; and support business risk management for new applications and products.
In addition the first EHS&S Product safety role in Africa is expected to assess and advise the Dow organization on the needs for additional resources on the continent and options analysis and recommendations for structuring those roles in Africa
Key responsibilities include:
  • To provide country-specific assistance and guidance to businesses and other functions to ensure compliance with Dow’s Global Product Stewardship Management Standard and applicable EH&S-related product regulations in the area of responsibility.
  • To monitor relevant regional/national/local product legislative and regulatory developments, such as new regulations and emerging short and long term trends that may have an impact on Dow businesses.
  • To lead and/or assist with advocacy efforts to represent the business interests on new product regulations or regulatory changes with external stakeholders (e.g. industry trade associations, regulatory agencies, etc.) and to support the businesses in specific, product and/or application related advocacy efforts.
  • To provide interpretations of product regulations and to communicate to the relevant Dow business clients, country leadership and EH&S leadership on local regulatory developments and emerging short and long term regulatory trends.
  • To provide assistance to the businesses to develop the appropriate documentation and tools to enable them to efficiently communicate with their customers on national or regional product regulatory matters.
  • To be the local Dow EH&S product regulatory resource for customers, authorities, industry associations and the Dow sales force.
  • To handle product registrations/notifications/reporting, i.e.: Country specific product registrations, as well as application-specific dossiers and other declarations, as applicable by country.
  • To support hazard communication needs of all businesses by providing expertise, interpretations and assessments of national and local hazard communication requirements.
  • Provide product stewardship training to business partners, distributors and customers.
  • Support EH&S business risk assessment/management needed for new applications and products.
  • To support new business development and product and business growth, e.g. integration of new acquisitions, Joint Ventures where Dow is providing EH&S Product Regulatory services, etc
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree, preferably in science or engineering discipline, with a minimum of 3-5 years of industrial experience in chemical or related industry minimum (5-10 years of experience is preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work independently, cross-business, cross-function, with remote reporting lines
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
  • Flexible and team oriented with excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience in the EH&S Product Regulatory field is an advantage, particularly in the chemical industry or a closely related industry
  • Expected travel: up to 50%
