Job title ANTI-ILLICIT TRADE ANALYST (AIT Analyst)

Job PurposeReporting to the Business Risk Information Manager, the Analyst provides timely and actionable strategic and operational intelligence on illicit trade, security and business continuity risks to BAT in our East & Central Africa Area (ECAA). Exploiting all available sources, supports the Security & AIT Team by providing a first class service that delivers strategic and tactical insight to threats and risks to the business, as well as operational analytical support to investigations into the criminal networks whose activities damage the business environment and deny us commercial opportunities. The analyst is a key resource for decision support about threats to business.
Key Deliverables

  1. Provide timely, comprehensive analytical products on illicit trade and security threats which are the source of our business risks. The output informs Senior Management of the overall threat picture shaping our business environment and it supports decision making to mitigate these business risks.
  2. Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the threat drivers relevant to ECAA, thus contributing to the upkeep of the risk assessments that influence our activities in a dynamic business landscape.
  3. Establish a proactive programme of information gathering to identify enablers of illicit trade & security risks.
  4. Integrate the data from threat assessments with in-house commercial market research, so as to flag potential opportunities for contestable market space to be created within the Area.
  5. Work closely with Security and AIT Managers to provide business focused responses to requests from internal and external stakeholders.
  6. Undertake multiple source research on companies and individuals suspected of being involved in illicit trade.
  7. Manage intelligence obtained through collection plans and maintain a secure database.
  8. Support and participate in training and capacity building workshops for both internal & external stakeholders.
  9. Adhere to the business’ AIT and Security strategies, ensuring all analytical work is properly aligned with this.
Essential requirements
  1. Substantial experience and formal training in research and analysis of both qualitative & quantitative data (degree level studies in a social science discipline would be preferred).
  2. Strong interest in and a good understanding of geo-political conditions and the drivers of conflict and crime.
  3. A sound working knowledge and experience of the intelligence cycle and its application, including an appreciation of the various forms of information collection, analysis and exploitation.
  4. Excellent knowledge of manual and electronic data analysis tools, such as Excel, i2 Analyst Notebook and other database applications, as well as graphic/visual presentation tools.
  5. Methodical and disciplined, proficient in information analysis and the production of analytical product in the form of reports and briefings, often to tight deadlines and without supervision.
  6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (strong written English). Working French an advantage. Sound understanding of illicit trade and a good awareness of the related legal issues and evidential requirements underpinning the investigation and prosecution of offenders.
  7. Highest level of discretion, ethics and unyielding integrity
