About the Humanitarian Trainee scheme:
The Humanitarian Trainee scheme has been launched as a capacity-building initiative to increase the number of trained professionals in the humanitarian sector.We are looking for talented people committed to long-term service in the humanitarian sector in different technical areas, who can demonstrate outstanding people skills and the motivation to develop excellent technical knowledge. Applicants need to demonstrate that they are committed to the humanitarian sector and have actively taken steps towards developing appropriate skills and experience necessary for working in the sector.
The one-year scheme is designed to enable participants to develop the necessary skills in order to launch a career in the humanitarian sector.It is anticipated that, upon successful completion of the programme, trainees will go on to pursue a career in humanitarian work within Save the Children International programmes or other international humanitarian organisations. Depending on previous experience, the nature of the deployment placement and the availability of vacant posts, trainees will be qualified to apply to entry level positions and go on to pursue a career in the humanitarian sector.
The one-year programme combines structured, sector-leading training, head office trainee placements and self-study with coached field deployments and provides a chance for talented graduates to effectively contribute to international humanitarian programmes and gain experience in the humanitarian sector.
Who can apply?:
Anyone who meets the essential criteria can apply for the trainee schemes.
Please note: this is an entry level programme. We are looking for people with very limited or no experience in an NGO, people with this experience already will not benefit from this scheme.
Applicants must be:
  • Eligible to work in the UK immediately.
  • Be able to finance themselves (including accommodation) for 6 months in London.
Candidates can only apply for ONE traineeship.
What’s in it for you?
The Humanitarian Trainee scheme is a structured training scheme for those motivated by pursuing a career in the Humanitarian field and will complete the course with a sector-leading humanitarian agency. They are head office based for 6 months and field based for the same amount of time. During the head office based time, pocket expenses are covered, however during this time they on are a structured learning path that offers them the insight and practical skills they will need to work and succeed in this sector. Save the Children and their donors invest £10,500 per trainee during their 12 months as a Trainee this covers security training, support of a dedicated mentor, distance learning, international flights, accommodation, food, medical insurance and an additional £500 per month towards general living costs when in the field.
