Job Details
Our Kenyan client is a 5 Star Hotel within the East African region currently looking for a Front Office Manager.
The main responsibilities of the selected candidate will be to :
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the front office department which include, front desk, concierge, guest relations, executive club and PABX.
  • Ensure all staff are properly trained on all systems, standards and procedures to effectively carry out their job functions
  • Ensure guests receive prompt, professional attention and personal recognition
  • Ensure total guest satisfaction in accordance with Brand Standards
  • Regularly conduct routine inspections of the front office and public areas to ensure the appearance of such areas reflects highly on the hotel, brand and Company
  • Analyse guest satisfaction data and develop and implement plans to achieve established goals related to guest satisfaction scores, front desk activities, etc
  • Achieve budgeted revenues, control labour costs and expenses, and maximize profitability within all areas of the front office
  • Establish, implement, and maintain training and procedures for PABX to serve as a central communications point during emergency/crisis situations
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments
  • Serve as “manager on duty” as required including weekends, nights and public holiday
Requirements
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management/Business Administration
  • Have a minimum of 3 years experience in Front Office/Guest Service management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must speak fluent English. Other languages will be considered an asset
  • Possess excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Have a proven track record in managing, leading and developing a team
  • Demonstrate ability to interact with guests, employees and third parties
  • Possess excellent problem solving, reasoning, motivating, organisational and training skills

Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP’s Division of Early Warning and Assessment (DEWA) is responsible for analyzing the state of the global environment, providing early warning information and assessing global and regional environmental trends to catalyse and promote international cooperation and action on the environment.
This post is located in UNEP/DEWA in Nairobi. Under the overall guidance of the Director, DEWA and the direct supervision of the Fund Management Officer, Programme Support Unit, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:

Responsibilities
Budget:
Assists in the preparation of supporting documents (narrative and supporting tables) with respect to finalization of cost estimates and budget proposals, in terms of staff and non-staff requirements. •Supports the Fund Management Officer in extracting information and generating expenditure reports from computerized information system databases; assists in preliminary analyses of the extracted information and the reports generated, and highlights areas of concern for the attention of the Fund Management Officer. •Assists in the development of resource requirements for budget submissions and in the preparation of budget performance submissions. •Researches/compiles data and other information required by the Fund Management Officer in the review and analysis of relevant proposals.
Consolidates data and provides support to Fund Management Officer with respect to budget reviews of relevant intergovernmental and expert bodies. •Assists the Fund Management Officer in the preparation/finalization of finance and budget performance reports, performing preliminary analysis of variances between approved budgets and actual expenditures. •Prepares pre-encumbrances and obligations in IMIS and review them to ensure that funds are available and the correct account has been used. •Assists in drafting the initial versions of the Financial Reports for submission to Donors and legislative bodies.
Assists the Fund Management Officer with tabulation and data input for project documents.
Assists in the financial backstopping of trust funds, including monitoring the status of voluntary contributions, generating expenditure reports from IMIS and monitoring reporting requirements by donors. •Assists the Fund Management Officer in the issuance of allotments and related staffing table authorizations. •Verifies accuracy of input data, ensuring consistency of data in previous allotments to new allotments issued. •Reviews draft reports, verifying overall accuracy, consistency and uniformity in the presentation, and ensuring comprehensiveness and compliance with the prescribed formats; cross-checks consistency of figures in tables with the text of the reports, and verifies references to other reports and documents, bringing errors to the attention of the Fund Management Officer concerned; ensures that all necessary corrections are incorporated in the reports; co-ordinates with other finance and budget staff on related issues during preparation of budget reports.•Verifies and prepares payments to third parties, commercial entities, and Partners as well as assists in the processing of payments to Governments and vendors for good and services. This includes calculating, inputting, and checking payments for correctness and communicating discrepancies to supervisors. •Records and reconciles more complex accounting transactions. •Examines and records financial transactions of Offices-away-from-Headquarters /other UN organisations and prepares remittances for disbursement. •Reconciles more complex bank accounts in various currencies.
Drafts/prepares memoranda and/or faxes to various offices, departments and overseas offices.
General:
Keeps up-to-date on documents/reports/guidelines that have a bearing on matters related to programme budgets, ensuring compliance with intergovernmental recommendations and decisions as well as with United Nations policies and procedures. •Drafts routine correspondence with respect to enquiries related to relevant financial and budget matters.
Maintains and keep up-to-date files. •Provides administrative support to the Chief of the Programme Support Unit and/or Fund Management Officer. •Responds to queries from staff members and third parties. •Performs other related duties, as assigned

Education

Work Experience
Five years of experience in finance, budget and accounting in international organisations. Practical experience in an ERP accounting and finance system and IPSAS is an asset. Experience in the United Nations is an asset
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Job description
The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a Post-doctoral level Food Scientist with skills in product development and nutrition composition analysis to contribute to regional projects on pro-vitamin A rich orange-fleshed sweetpotato in Africa.
Position Description: The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya at the nutrition lab of the Biosciences for eastern and central Africa (BecA) research center (on the campus of the International Livestock Research Institute), with occasional travel within the sub-Saharan Africa region. The Food Scientist will report to the Project Leader for the Scaling-Up Sweetpotato through Agriculture and Nutrition (SUSTAIN) project which is using orange-fleshed sweetpotato as an entry point for improving nutrition outcomes through an integrated agriculture-nutrition-marketing approach. The principal tasks and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:


Duties and responsibilities:
  • Lead the establishment of a regional lab to analyze the nutritional content of sweetpotato (conventional and biofortified varieties) in their fresh and processed forms and the bioaccessibility of sweetpotato-based products.
  • In collaboration with partners, conduct research on shelf-life life and quality characteristics of orange-fleshed sweetpotato puree and its derived products that are preserved using different methods.
  • Collaborate with private-sector partners in the development of cost-effective sweetpotato-based products.
  • Backstop public-sector partner institutions in the region in improving their protocols for nutrition analysis.
  • Supervise students on thesis research topics of relevance to the sweetpotato food science program.
  • Participate in food science professional forums in sub-Saharan Africa, and specifically provide leadership for the regional Sweetpotato Support Platform focused on Post-Harvest Management and Utilization.
  • Engage in resource mobilization to strengthen the nutrition lab and post-harvest research in the region.
  • Contribute to project reports and publish relevant findings on a timely basis.
Desired Skills and Experience
Selection Criteria:
The successful candidate will have:
  1. Necessary requirements:
  • PhD degree in Food Science or Biochemistry
  • Experience in nutrition composition analysis and excellent analytic skills
  • Aptitude for teamwork, leadership, training, and communications skills.
  • Good publication record.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to travel within the region.
  1. Additional preferences:

  • Experience working with starch chemistry or product development.
  • Working knowledge of Portuguese and/or French.
  • Prior experience working in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Experience in fund raising.
Experience working on a multi-disciplinary team or project.


Conditions: The employment contract will be for a two-year term(with a three month probation period) with the possibility of extension, subject to availability of funding. The salary will be internationally competitive, paid in US dollars; including 15% pension contribution, various international insurances, and relocation allowance.
