established under the Statistics Act (2006). It is the principal
Government agency responsible for the collection, compilation,
analysis, publication and dissemination of official statistical
information and its custody. It also oversees the coordination,
supervision and development of programmes within the National

Job
Title: Field Supervisor

KNBS
intends to conduct the Kenya Integrated Household Budget Survey
(KIHBS) which will be a source of data to update the country’s
poverty profile, consumer price index weights, National Accounts data
and other socioeconomic indicators. The Bureau therefore invites
applications from suitably qualified individuals with excellent
credentials to fill the following temporary positions:-
Reporting
to the Field Coordinator, the Field Supervisor is expected to
supervise Field Interviewers and ensure the following:
• That
data collected is of high quality;
•
Field
data collection activities are conducted efficiently, within
established cost and time frame parameters;
• All
fieldwork is performed in a professional manner.
1.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
i.
Fieldwork preparation activities
a)
Preparing Field Interviewer assignments so that work can be completed
in the most efficient manner.
b)
Contacting local authorities through the County Statistical Officer
to inform them about the survey and gain their support and
cooperation
c)
Obtaining all necessary supplies to support fieldwork for your
assigned team
d)
Mastering the contents of the questionnaires/forms, the training
manuals, control forms and any other relevant materials.
ii.
Fieldwork activities
a)
Providing supervision and support for the team
b)
Ensuring that sampled households are identified and enumerated
c)
Monitoring the quality of the data collected
d)
Providing assistance to interviews when challenges are encountered,
including converting refusals, whenever they occur.
e)
Providing constructive feedback on errors to improve performance.
f)
Assisting in the editing of completed questionnaires
g)
Ensuring data entry is captured accurately in the field
h)
Administering the community and market questionnaire in each cluster
i)
Ensuring that control records of the work are properly filled
j)
Preparing weekly briefs and monthly reports to the coordinator
k)
Transferring captured data to the headquarters
iii.
Administrative activities
a)
Reviewing Field Interviewer reports to ensure they are timely,
accurate, and contain reasonable information.
b)
Controlling the use of the vehicle(s) assigned to the team
c)
Responsible for all accessories and other office equipment for the
survey;
d)
Ensuring the packaging and delivery of completed questionnaires to
the headquarter is as per set guidelines
e)
Ensuring that all completed work is transmitted to the Central Office
on schedule and in the manner specified.
f)
Maintaining regular communication with the Central Office on field
progress and problems.
g)
Following all field administrative procedures.
h)
Addressing current and potential problems proactively.
i)
Providing leadership and inculcating team spirit

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT
a)
Must be a Kenyan citizen
b)
Should have completed at least secondary level of education, with a
minimum of C+ (plus) or its equivalent.
c)
Must have scored a minimum of C+ (plus) in Mathematics and English in
KCSE
d)
Supervision experience in data collection in national level Surveys
is an added advantage
e)
Should possess good communication skills
f)
Must be computer literate
g)
Have good interpersonal skills and strong capacity for teamwork
h)
Ready to work for long hours including weekends
i)
Must be available for a period of an uninterrupted 8 months

Reporting
to the Field Supervisor, the Field Interviewers are the key personnel
in the data collection exercise.
1.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a)
Locating sampled households with the assistance of the supervisor
b)
Conducting the interviews to the targeted respondents and completing
the questionnaire(s)
c)
Checking the completed questionnaires to ensure that all questions
were asked and responses neatly and legibly recorded
d)
Arranging for interviews and callbacks
e)
Maintaining confidentiality of the interviews and the data collected
f)
Locating survey materials and equipment
g)
Preparing debriefing notes for the supervisor

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT
a)
Must be a Kenyan citizen
b)
Should have completed at least secondary level of education, with a
minimum of C+ (Plus) or its equivalent.
c)
Must have scored a minimum of C+ (plus) in Mathematics and English in
KCSE
d)
Must be residents of the county they will be assigned to work
e)
Must be conversant with the main local language/dialect of the area
of work

Should possess good communication skills

Must be physically fit and able to walk in difficult terrains

Reporting

provide support to the Field Interviewers.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a)
Accompanying each Field Interviewer on a specified number of
interviewing visits to observe and review interviews.
b)
Meeting regularly with Field Interviewers to discuss progress and
common mistakes noted or encountered.
c)
Providing assistance to interviews when challenges are encountered,
in the absence of the Supervisor
d)
Ensuring that all assigned households are covered including all the
call backs.
e)
Providing constructive feedback on errors to improve Field
Interviewer performance.
f)
Verifying and validating each Field Interviewer's work according to
edit specifications and completing appropriate follow-up actions.
g)
Tracking overall Field Interviewer data quality.
h)
Interviewing and capturing household information using computer aided
personal interview (CAPI) approach.
i)
Compiling prompt and accurate field status reports.
j)
Assisting the supervisor in conducting the community and market
questionnaire
k)
Preparing debriefing notes for the supervisor
l)
Forwarding to the supervisor all completed questionnaires and
relevant notes.
