UNDERWRITING
MANAGER – GENERAL INSURANCE
Job
Purpose
To
ensure that the risks accepted in the Company are properly priced and
bear underwriting terms commensurate with the level of risk.
The role protects the company against admitting poor risks that can
expose the Company to large and severe claims. The Key
objective is to deliver growth and underwriting profitability through
proper selection and adequate pricing of risks. The role also
ensures that Certificates, Policy documents, debits and endorsements
are issued in a timely manner that delivers delight to the customers.
Duties
& Responsibilities
• Prepare,
circulate and regularly update underwriting guidelines to be followed
every year
• Review
the risks accepted in the company to ensure they are within the set
underwriting guidelines and are covered under the reinsurance
programme
• Issue
quotations for large and complex risks (above Ksh. 500M)
• Provide
guidance to underwriting staff, sales managers and all branch
underwriters on various enquiries for risk acceptance.
• Ensure
proper documentation of risks and timely issuance of certificates,
debits, policy documents and endorsements.
• Ensure
efficient renewal process to achieve the set turnaround time for
issuance of renewal notices and deliver the desired retention.
Directly negotiate major corporate renewals.
• Co-ordinate
underwriting activities to ensure quality and excellent customer
service.
• Ensure
compliance with the regulatory requirements.
• Provide
leadership to the underwriting team through training and staff
motivation to achieve the underwriting objectives.
• Review
of departmental business processes and systems to meet the changing
business needs and client expectations.
• Approve
payments for refunds and expenses within the underwriting department.
• Engage
intermediaries and other business partners in order to grow the
business.
Academic
qualifications
• Bachelor’s
Degree in Insurance, Acturial Science, Economics, Finance, Marketing,
Business Administration or any other related degree.
• KCSE
Grade C+ and above.
Professional
qualifications
• Completed
AIIK or ACII
Relevant
work experience
• 7
Years’ experience in Underwriting or Claims in a busy office.

2.TRAINING AND AGENCY SUPPORT MANAGER
Job
Purpose
Reporting
to the Head of Sales, this position is to design and implement a
comprehensive sales training programmes aimed at enabling the retail
sales team achieve set business objectives by performing the
following taks;
Duties
& Responsibility
• Designing
sales skills modules and competency training programmes in
consultation with the Head of Sales and the Assistant General
Manager, Operations
• Developing
Advisors recruitment manual in consultation with Head of sales and
the Assistant General Manager – Operations
• Inducting
the newly recruited financial advisors, Marketing Executives,
Saccoassurance officers, agencies, intermediaries, branch Admin
Assistants, Customers Service staff, Key Account Managers, Unit
Managers and Agency Managers into the CIC way of selling and managing
relationships with our customers – carrying out the onboarding
training
• Develop
product manuals and product training materials for training of sales
team and providing training of trainers
• Carrying
out joint sales calls with Unit Managers and or Agency Managers for
high net worth prospects and or clients
• Monitoring
advisors’ activations
• Ensuring
full compliance and certification of financial advisors, unit
managers and agency managers
• Providing
one on one coaching and field training in conjunction with the sales
managers
• Assisting
Unit Managers and Agency Managers in advisor recruitments
• Ensure
that financial advisors and Sales Manager compliance with IRA, RBA,
CMA and internal company standards and procedures; including
licensing and training where required
Academic
qualifications
• Bachelors
degree in Commerce, Economics, Finance, Marketing or any other
business related degree from a recognised University
Professional
qualifications
• Technical
Insurance Qualifications (Minimum COP) is necessary
• Relevant
certifications in training and development will be an added advantage
Relevant
work experience
• 5
Years in training and market development position
• 2-4
years’ experience management and or training of sales team in a
bank or insurance, 1 of which must be training delivery in a
reputable life insurance company

Purpose
Assist
in the preparation, implementation and articulation of prudent claims
administration policies, procedures and practices governed by
corporate and statutory guidelines.
