World Vision is an International Christian Relief and Development organization, whose goal is to achieve long-lasting benefits in the quality of life for vulnerable children and their families, displaced persons and communities. The Somalia program wishes to invite applications from highly competent dynamic, self-driven and results oriented candidate to fill the following vacancy in the organization.
1. Financial Accountant – Nairobi (with travel to the field) 
Provide technical backstopping in the financial process and enforcing internal controls and policies in order to minimize risk, safeguard organizational resources and facilitate timely and accurate financial reporting within world vision International deadlines.
Major Responsibilities:
1.      Bank and Supplier Reconciliation.
  • Review Supplier statement to ensure they are accurate & reflective of actual creditor position and follow-up to ensure payment is done to ensure accurate grant and financial reporting.
  • Review bank statements to ensure they are accurate and reflective of actual financial transactions for the period under review.
  • Monitoring bank accounts and ensuring adequate liquidity is maintained each month and avoiding risks of negative cash balance.
2.      Strategic Financial Management.
  • Assist Accounts Manager in developing financial analyses based on the National office financial statements and providing recommendations based on the trends of the expenditure and Income
  • On a monthly basis review the accounting records and develop key observations arising from the internal controls reflected in the payment process
  • Develop analysis of payment lead times and analyses of business processes for purpose of creating efficiency in financial process. 
3.      General Ledge Reconciliation.
  • Reconciliation of Settlement Advice accounts on a monthly basis and ensure they are settled in compliance with WV financial requirements.
  • Providing support in reconciliation of WV Somalia Global Centre general ledger as part of monthly year end procedures
4.      Financial Reconciliation
·        Preparation of financial documents (Voucher Interfaces) and checking them for accuracy before entry into sun system.
·        Analysis of financial reports; balance sheet and Income statement and developing action points for Managers onward action points.
·        Review the cash flows developed by projects for entry into Sun system
·        Assisting the accounts manager in the preparation of the National Office Financial reports.
·        Carrying out monthly reconciliation of Balance sheet accounts to ensure the balances are accurate and reflect a true financial position for the organization.
5.      Financial Support and Facilitation
·        Writing cheques based on the financial back up documents and having these submitted to the payees of the cheques.
·        Business process continuity by working with Supply chain, Administration and IT in ensuring that operations of the firm are not interrupted because of failure to settle claims as they fall due.
·        Administering and Remitting of statutory deductions and ensuring that they are done on time to avoid penalties.
·        Enhancing a better working relationship between finance and suppliers to foster a good working relationship.
·        Filing Accounts documents and ensuring they are complete and easily accessible.
·        Any other duty not specifically stated above but will necessarily come within the framework of your operation shall be assigned to you from time to timeby the Accounts Manager
Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience
·        Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting & Finance or Bcom (Accounting Option) and CPA II or CPA(K) .
·        Professional technical skill desired (Sun System and Grants Management certification)
·        Knowledgeable on General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAPS)
·        A minimum 3years of experience in a similar finance role or related field such as management Accountant.
·        Practical knowledge of financial systems and internal financial controls.
·        Proficiency in computerized accounting systems, preferably Sun System, Microsoft Office is preferred.
Other Competencies/Attributes:
·        Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.
·        Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills
·        Attend and participate/lead in daily devotions and weekly Chapel services.
·        Must adhere to set security standards
·        Ensure a gender perspective in the scope of work
Working Environment / Conditions:
·        Work environment:  Nairobi Office-based with OCCASSIONAL travel to the field
·        Travel:  10% Domestic/international travel is required.
·        On call:  Yes

Description
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries, the IRC aims to restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to survive. 
This position provides technical support in the design, development and implementation of Environmental Health (EH) programs in countries in conflict, crisis, post-conflict and post-crisis settings.  The Technical Advisor develops tools and resources to support IRC programming within the Environmental Health sector, based on evidence demonstrating the impact of IRC’s work. Environmental Health field programs are supported by a headquarters team of five Technical Advisors supervised by the Senior Technical Advisor Environmental Health, ensuring quality programming related to water supply, sanitation, hygiene promotion and vector control. The EH team is situated institutionally within the Health Unit of IRC alongside reproductive health, child survival, primary health care and nutrition. 
Major Responsibilities:
  • Provide remote and on-site technical support and assistance in the design, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programming and project activities within the Environmental Health technical domain.  Maintain relationships with regional and country program coordinators and managers and offer them support, as needed, on program implementation and monitoring via regular field visits, emails, phone calls, etc.
  • Assist in the design and development of EH programs and country sector strategies.
  • Participate in the recruitment of EH field staff. Promote staff development via training, workshops, exchange programs, and coaching.
  • Contribute to the continued development of the EH Field Guide and other IRC EH resources and policies. Participate in research, teaching, and academic activities in the context of IRC programs and strategic priorities.
  • Represent EH across the organization, serving as a resource to IRC staff seeking information about program activities, including external relations and advocacy departments. 
  • Represent EH and the IRC in outside meetings and academic forums with donors, other non-governmental organizations, inter-agency working groups, foundations and other practitioners in the field.
  • Share and learn best practices gathered throughout the Technical Units to support robust evidence-based programming within the IRC.
Job Qualifications:
  • Education: University degree in engineering, hydrology, environmental health or related subject. 
  • Work Experience: At least five years experience in implementing environmental health programs in relief, post-emergency, and development settings.  
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
  • Technical expertise in water supply, sanitation, hygiene promotion, and vector control; experience in integrated EH + nutrition/health/livelihoods programming a plus.
  • Demonstrated expertise in program design, monitoring and evaluation, with the ability to turn concepts and strategy into measurable action. 
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write and present. 
  • Ability to be flexible and work well under pressure in a fast-paced team environment and to work independently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to renewing and maintaining currency with best practices. 
  • Language Skills: English fluency and an ability to work in French are essential.
Working Environment: Must be willing to travel up to 40% of the time to regional and international locations.
