the UK. As we expand our Kenyan operations we are looking to invite
ambitious top-tier Business students to join our firm for an
internship, with a chance of full time employment in the future.
The
Role The
job will entail supporting senior management in providing management
consultancy to SMEs/corporates in the area of:
Strategy
Operational
Management
Brand
and Marketing Strategy
Service
Management
Marketing
Data
Analysis
Developing
web based businesses/e-commerce
The
focus will be on the Retail, Financial and FMCG sectors. The
internship will be for 3 months with the possibility of an extension
to full time employment. The
candidate must meet the following requirements:
Degree
in Masters in Business Administration (MBA) or on-going Masters level
training in a similar field.
Minimum
upper 2nd class honours.
Good
MS office skills (high level in Excel and Power Point is a must).
Computer
literacy in other programmes, database/web development, e-commerce
and MRPs are welcome.
Excellent
command of the English language both written and oral.
Must
be able to deliver to targets, willing to learn, logical, analytical,
a good planner, team player, give attention to detail and able to
maintain confidentiality.
Ability
to work in a multicultural environment, demonstrate an ability to
work independently, manage time and multiple tasks efficiently and
have a positive attitude.
Applicants
must be Kenyan citizen or have a valid work permit for Kenya.
Should
be able to travel around the city and upcountry if required.
Other
information:
Our
office is based in Westlands, Nairobi.
The
intern is responsible for their own travel, accommodation, medical
insurance, visas and living expenses.

A leading mid-sized insurance company with profits in excess of Ksh. 200m dealing in general insurance is looking to recruit a suitably qualified, dynamic and experienced individual to join their high powered team as an Underwriting Manager, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate will:
Provide leadership for the organisation’s underwriting service function and effectively manage the security and risk of the company’s portfolio.
Maximise opportunities for profitability by leveraging business relationships, product knowledge and underwriting expertise.
Develop a road map and promote the company by executing strategic initiatives that subsequently contribute to the profitability and growth of the business.
Develop and implement equitable policy contracts and due execution of policies and other accountable documents.
Ensure underwriting disciplines are maintained at all times through relevant audit and controls.
Ensure that the risks accepted in the company are within the set underwriting guidelines and are covered under the reinsurance programme.
Be responsible for the administration of all underwriting plans and ensure compliance with all regulatory agency guidelines and including the company policies.
Prepare and maintain up-to-date underwriting manuals.
Continuously review and optimise business processes and mobilise resources to meet the changing business needs and client expectations.
Drive technical excellence and trading behaviours across the underwriting team and effectively manage internal and external stakeholders.
Cultivate a culture of high performance, ethics and ownership within the department ensuring behaviours meet the expected standards.
Ensure underwriting empowerment is dispersed adequately and appropriately and fully utilised by all underwriting staff.
Through audit and underwriting control analysis spot trends and highlight training programmes, as well as develop competence at an individual level, continuously raising underwriting and trading capability.
Provide guidance, support and supervise the underwriting department staff.
Prepare management report, consistently evaluate underwriting performance against business objectives and recommend productive measures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in a Business related field.
Master’s Degree will be an added advantage.
Fully AIIK/ACII or equivalent qualified.
Minimum of 10 years experience in the Insurance Industry, 3 of which at managerial level.
Proficient in insurance management software packages preferably Premia Systems.
Proficient user of the MS Office application.
Demonstrate a track record for underwriting profitability, breadth and depth of technical knowledge in all underwriting matters and an understanding of the insurance market and processes.
Demonstrate strong leadership as well as good mentoring and coaching skills.
Pragmatic decision maker with strong analytical and numerical reasoning.
Strong team player, communicator with superior negotiation skills.

- Reviewing
high value projects in property development suitable for financing,
bearing in mind risk/return parameters set by the bank.
- Providing
guidance for purposes of re-packaging construction cases from the
various business units in order to meet banks requirements
- Undertaking
technical analysis/reviews on construction projects with a view to
ensure compliance with the bank, relevant statutory and legislative
requirements.
- Liaising
with external project managers and ensuring timely receipt of
project progress reports.
- Reviewing
project progress reports with a view to advice management on

- Ensuring
completeness of project documentation as per approval conditions
before initiating disbursements.
- Liaising
with the various bodies within the built and design industry with a
view to build and update a database for qualified professionals in

- Advising
management of various legislative /statutory changes within the

- Offering
guidance to the project officers/assistants , while rendering
technical support to the business units in evaluation of
construction related applications
- Participating
in the approval process as a member of the departmental credit
committee
- Participating
in site inspections, review missions, and generate the necessary
site reports.
- Providing
technical support to the various business units and Credit Analysis
teams in evaluation of construction related applications
- Undertaking
any other duty that may be assigned within the bank relevant to the
area of expertise.
The incumbent will be required to possess the following attributes / skills and qualifications.
- Hold
a Bachelor’s degree in either construction management,
Land/Building Economics( Quantity surveying) , Building Technology,
Construction Management and any other relevant qualification
within built environment
- A
Master’s degree in any of the above disciplines will be an added
advantage.
- At
least 3 years’ of demonstrable experience in a project management
firm/ construction firm/Quantity surveying firm.
- Good
knowledge and experience in project appraisal preferably in a
banking environment
- Computer
literacy is mandatory
- Time
management and personal organization
- PC
skill in Microsoft office, excel and word packages or equivalent
