The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization that carries out policy relevant research on population,
health, education and development issues facing sub-Saharan Africa.
The Center seeks to recruit a Development Officer and a Program Administrative Assistant.
The Development Officer shall be part of the development unit, under the Operations Division. The unit’s key responsibility is to provide leadership in resource mobilization and grant management for the Center’s growing portfolio of projects.
The Program Assistant shall be part of the Research Capacity Strengthening Division which spearheads APHRC’s efforts to strengthen individual and institutional research capacity in sub-Saharan Africa.

Development Officer
The Development Officer’s main responsibility will be in the area of grant management under the guidance of the Development Manager.
A smaller percentage of time will be allocated for administrative support to the Director of Operations office.

Responsibilities

Grants Management and Fundraising

  • Manage the Center’s grants portfolio ensuring compliance with funders requirements including timely reporting
  • Drafting grant agreements and maintaining records of all grant agreements and correspondences, including sub-awards;
  • Track all relevant project changes and developments, document them and seek donor approval prior to the implementation of the proposed changes.
  • Provide support to sub-ward management processes;
  • Support the implementation of the fundraising activities maintaining an up to date database of potential funding opportunities and or collaborations;
  • Managing regular communication and follow-ups with current and potential funders; and Working with the Center’s Policy, Engagement and Communications division to keep funders appraised of APHRC research program initiatives.


Development and Operations

  • Provide support to the Operation’s Division Director’s office and respond to queries in his/her absence;
  • Schedule appointments for the Division Director and other members of the team as necessary;
  • Manage meetings of the division, including preparing documentation, taking minutes as necessary and follow up on action points with the concerned parties to ensure that action is taken;
  • Assist with division’s general management activities liaising with other divisions and service providers as appropriate


Education Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a finance related field;
  • Master’s degree or Professional qualification in project management;
  • At least 5 years of relevant demonstrated progressive experience in international development with direct work experience in grants management and administration of grants;
  •  3 years working with an INGO in related field;
  • Experience in fundraising would be an added advantage; and
  • Knowledge of various donor requirements and demonstrated experience working with one or more of the following categories of funders; bilateral, multilateral, Corporations, US Foundations and various Government agencies.


Program Administrative Assistant
Reporting to the Director of Research Capacity Strengthening Division, the Program Assistant responsibilities shall entail administrative support as detailed below:

Responsibilities

  • Manage the RCS Division Director’s office and respond to queries in his/her absence;
  • Schedule appointments for the Division Director and other members of the team as necessary;
  • Manage meetings of the division, including preparing documentation and taking minutes as necessary;
  • Identify action points during meetings and follow up with the concerned parties to ensure that action is taken;
  • Maintain an effective record and filing system for contacts, project activities, correspondences, and documents for quick and easy reference;
  • Develop schedules and analysis to help review products from various units within the division; 
  • Provide support in formatting of reports;
  • Assist in proposal development process taking responsibility for administrative sections of proposals developed within the division and ensuring all application requirements are met;
  • Assist in organizing for contract preparations within the Division;
  • Manage conference and workshop logistics by preparing draft budgets, making travel and hotel bookings, sending invitations, preparing workshop materials and arranging for per diems;
  • Assist with division financial management, including assisting with monitoring of the division budget expenditure;
  • Maintain grant reporting schedules of the division in the Project Management System (PMS) and follow-up on project reports to ensure submission by due dates;
  • Help in monitoring project implementation including review of burn rates on the online management accounting system and seeking from the division teams the rationale for projects that are delayed;
  • Maintain an effective record and filing system for contacts, donor correspondences and related documents; and Support where appropriate in the planning and execution of the identified fundraising campaigns.


Essential Skills

  • First degree in business administration or related field;
  • 3 years of relevant experience in a busy office, preferably an NGO; 
  • Good planning, financial and organizational skills;
  • Good computer skills;
  • Excellent communication skills in English and French (bothwritten and verbal); and
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

A Hotel is currently looking for a
Night Auditor with the following duties:
  • Close the date and check carefully and post all received income of the day.
  • Produce all daily, weekly and monthly reports from the front office.
  • Answer emails, do reservations and take care of any customer needs during the nights.
  • Be in charge of all front office operations during the night time.
  • Be of assistance to the accounting department if need be.
Qualifications and experiences:
  • Minimum 2 years of previous experience as night auditor is required
  • Other previous experience in hotel reservations and/or reception is advantage.
  • Previous experience in Micros Fidelios (Opera) software or similar software is preferable.
  • Excellent computer skills are required.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required
  • Other requirements: good customer service attitude, flexibility with working hours, and trustworthy personality.
